Do you need help to quit smoking or vaping

Most children and young people don’t vape or smoke, but vapes and cigarettes both contain nicotine which is highly addictive and can be hard to stop once you have started.

Nicotine cravings can make you irritable, cause anxiety and headaches, affect your sleep and concentration.

Here’s some advice to help you stop vaping if you're ready to make a change:

  • Lower the Nicotine – Slowly cut back on how strong the nicotine is in your vape. This can help you stop gradually.
  • Set Vaping Limits – Try to only vape at specific times, like during a break or when you’re outside.
  • Know Your Reasons – Write down why you want to quit. Look at this list whenever you feel like vaping.
  • Pick a Quit Day – Set a date in the next couple of weeks to quit. Use this time to get prepared.
  • Spot Your Triggers and steer clear – Notice the times, places, or people that make you want to vape. Try to avoid the things that make you want to vape and have a plan for these situations.
  • Get Support – Let friends or family know you're quitting.
  • Stay Busy – Exercise, sports, or hobbies can distract you and cut cravings.
  • De-Stress – Activities like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing can help you relax and stay focused.
  • Celebrate Wins – Reward yourself for reaching milestones; it keeps you motivated.
  • Keep Your Hands and Mouth Busy – Use things like sugar-free gum, a straw, or a stress ball.

Small steps can make a big difference! Try one or two of these tips to get started.

How to dispose of vapes

All types of vapes can and should be recycled but they cannot go in the bin or the recycling bin. Some supermarkets and other local shops have take-back schemes and some vape brands have a postal return scheme.

You can also take them to the Reuse and Recycling Centre on Regis Road, Kentish Town, NW5 3EW.
