Free and low-cost half-term activities for children and young people

It's half-term next week, from 28 October to 1 November, and there are lots of free and low-cost sports, physical activities, arts, creative activities, youth and play projects to get involved in.

  • Holiday sports and physical activities. Please register in advance for all activities, which include Active Wednesday free multi-sports activities for ages 11 to 17 on 30 October; Kids Swim for a Quid for children under 16 at Camden Better leisure centres; Arsenal in the Community free football coaching for ages 8 to 14 from 30 October to 1 November; Mini-Gymnastics Camp for ages 4 to 7, and Multi-Sports Holiday Scheme for ages 8 to 12.   • Camden Active Holiday Activities and Food Programme. This runs at Talacre Community Sports Centre, Dalby Street, NW5 3AF, for children aged 8 to 12 who are eligible for free school meals, from 28 October to 1 November. Find out more and book your places
  • Girls-only tennis during half-term. These sessions are run by Rudolph School of Tennis at Parliament Hill Fields in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association. Visit the website, download a flyer or email [email protected] to find out more and book
  • Pirate Castle Half-Term Holiday Programme. Have fun, get active and make waves with the Pirate Castle during half-term, with a range of paddlesport and canal boating activities.   • Copy Club Zine-Making and DIY Publishing. There's a free session taking place on Monday 28 October but also 11 and 25 November. Download a flyer to find out more
  • Different Gravy - young people's photography exhibition. Open on Saturday 2 November and Sunday 3 November, 12noon to 5pm in the TRA Hall on the Alexandra & Ainsworth Estate, NW8. Supported by the One Kilburn Community Fund, Different Gravy ran creative workshops for young people at the ARC Youth Club on the estate. Participants learnt a variety of analogue photography techniques, including shooting on film, creating videos with Super 8, and even making prints using the power of the sun. This free exhibition showcases incredible photographs created by local young people and also coincides with the annual fireworks display on Sunday night. All welcome
  • Camden Young Designers programme. This architecture and design programme for ages 16 to 25 is taking place from Tuesday 29 October to Thursday 31 October, between 2pm and 4pm at Never For Ever, 79 Highgate Road, NW5 1TL. Camden’s Community Investment Programme is pleased to offer this workshop series through community engagement specialists, make:good. The workshop is aimed at young people aged 16 to 25 in Camden Town Ward and Highgate Ward.   • Holiday play schemes for ages 4 to 12. Find a half-term holiday play scheme near your at camden.gov.uk/play
  • Youth activities and projects. Find out what is happening at youth clubs and projects, including their autumn 2024 half-term activities programmes, on the website.
  • Thriving Through Together (3Ts) event. Taking place on Thursday 31 October, 1pm to 4pm, in the Netherwood Youth and Family Hub and on the Webheath Estate, Kilburn, promoting services for young people and local residents. Stalls from a range of Camden Council and voluntary sector services and organisations. Download a flyer for more details
  • Creative Health Camden Youth Hub. The Gym, Kentish Town Health Centre, 2 Bartholomew Road, NW5 2BX. Visit their chilled, arty, wellbeing space, which is a quiet social space for 14 to 18-year-olds, bridging the gap between school and weekend. Activities include art workshops, table tennis, beanbags, books and graphic novels, refreshments and old school board games. Please fill in the CHC Youth Hub form on the back of their flyer.
