For the first time since 2019, Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold participants who completed all five sections of the Gold award were invited to Buckingham Palace for a formal award ceremony on Monday (16 May).
Autumn Elbourn, Camden Council's DofE Award Manager, said: "We had a really special day celebrating our Camden Gold participants at the Buckingham Palace gardens on Monday.
"It was great to see our young people get the recognition they deserve after such a long wait! With tea and a cake in hand, everyone was free to explore the gardens and attend guest talks by Ben Fogle and other adventurers.
"In glorious sunshine, HRH Prince Edward gave a speech and introduced some VIP speakers to the West Terrace stage, then met our DofE Gold Award holders and a few other selected groups for a chat about their awards, how the pandemic affected them and what their future plans are.
"It was a privilege to speak with him about our participants’ successes and how we adapted the programme during COVID. The whole day was such a wonderful celebration of young people’s achievements and commitment to DofE during some difficult years and I can't wait to see our current Gold participants at next year’s ceremony!”
