Belsize Community Library is running an exciting art project for Camden nursery and primary aged children to create a mascot for the library.
The theme of the competition is ‘The Runaway Peacock’, inspired by a female peacock who escaped from ZSL London Zoo in the summer of 2014 and frequented the local area.
Library staff and volunteers would like to think that she visited Belsize Community Library and have written and recorded a video version of a story about her favourite pastime – honking in the library and listening to stories read by Lucy the librarian.
Their aim is to put the library on the map and bring the community together through art and reading. The art competition will culminate in a celebratory ball and children’s work will be displayed in the library for the community to enjoy. Five of the mascot designs will be chosen to be displayed locally. The competition is open to all nursery and primary school children in the borough. The closing date is Friday 2 June, with artwork due to be submitted to the library by the following Friday (9 June).
The organisers can accept scanned images or can arrange collection of the artwork before the closing date. Scanned images should be emailed to [email protected] (please include ‘The Runaway Peacock’ in the subject of the email). Please see the printed version of the story here and full details about this competition here. You can also watch the video of the story here, which also tells you about the competition.
