Admission to Camden schools

Nursery admissions

Nursery admissions are dealt with by primary schools, children's centres and other nursery providers in Camden. Parents should apply to these directly.

Primary school reception admissions

We co-ordinate admissions for reception places at Camden primary schools. We also provide advice on transfers, vacancies and appeals.

  • Applications for September 2025 reception places have now closed (though late applications can be made). Parents and carers will be notified of the outcome on 16 April 2025
  • The deadline to apply online for a 2026 reception place is 15 January 2026
  • Read our guide 'Starting School in Camden'
  • View our new Camden School Reports, which have been created to give a rounded and fuller picture of each primary school. The majority of Camden's 38 primary schools are included and more will be added soon.

Secondary school transfer

We co-ordinate the transfer from primary to secondary school for admission to all Camden state secondary schools.

  • Applications for September 2025 reception places have now closed (though late applications can be made). Parents and carers will be notified of the outcome on 3 March 2025
  • The deadline to apply online for a Year 7 place for September 2026 is 31 October 2025
  • Read our guide 'Secondary Schools in Camden'
  • View our new Camden School Reports which have been created to give a rounded and fuller picture of each secondary school. Nine out of our 10 state secondary schools are included and we hope to add Camden School for Girls soon.

Primary to secondary school transition - a guide for parents

In Camden, it is a priority for us that children move smoothly and successfully from primary to secondary school. Here you can read or download our guide for parents:

In-year school admissions

An in-year application is when you make an application to a school outside of the normal admissions round. This is at a time when your child should already be attending school. Camden schools organise in-year admissions themselves.
